A Grand Opening Gala will be held at Apedale on 18th and 19th September 2010 to celebrate the official opening of the Apedale Valley Light Railway. During this weekend, the official opening ceremony will take place at 11:00 on Sunday the 19th, with the ceremony being carried out by Sir James Hawley, Staffordshire's Lord Lieutenant, along with the mayor of Newcastle-under-Lyme.
In addition to the extensive MRT fleet of internal combustion locomotives, "Stanhope", "Edward Sholto" and "Paddy" will be in steam on-site.

Our colleagues at the adjacent Apedale Heritage Centre will be running underground tours of their coal mine.
The site will be open from 11.00 to 17.00 on both days. There will be sales stands and refreshments will be available in the café run by the Apedale Heritage Centre.
The Apedale Valley Light Railway is close to the village of Chesterton, in Newcastle under Lyme, North Staffordshire. It is easily accessed from the M6 (junction 16) and many other major roads. There is public transport access using a frequent bus service to Chesterton village
